I'm Carrollee. I'm married and have two sons(6 years and 20 months) and a dog. We live in South Carolina. I grew up here and then left to go to college, and then after that moved to Atlanta and lived there for close to 15 years. Then we moved back here and it's okay. I like being close to my family and I live in my own little progressive bubble and try to ignore the stupidity that is South Carolina politics.
Currently I'm not working. I would like the income that having a job brings, but I like having the time to write and paint and knit and hang out with the kids. I enjoy cooking and baking. I spend too much time on the computer not writing. I love to read. My favorite book is probably East of Eden. My favorite authors are Jane Austen, Rex Stout, Dick Francis, Laurie King, Jim Butcher, and Noel Streatfeild, and I have a lot of books that I read once every 1-3 years or so.
My husband and I moved into a new house (new to us) at the end of last year and are in the process of fixing it up. It has the potential to be our forever home, and that's a good feeling. It was a foreclosure property and needs a lot of work but the most pressing problems have been repaired, and now we're on to more cosmetic type things.
I have a lot of different writing projects that I'm working on, but I tend to do better focusing on one at a time, rather than try to work on several things each day.
One day I'd really like to open a Halloween-themed B&B.

I will gladly be first in line to stay in that b&b.

I love your hair! And I would stay at a Halloween themed B and B.

Thank you! I'm working on pinking it all…right now most of it's black and I'm not trying to bleach that out so I'm dyeing my roots and touching up as I go.

I have to find the right house for the B&B. I had one in mind but unless I win the lottery there's no chance of getting it.

You look nice :) Also, I think it's great you also list Jim Butcher as one of your favourite authors - I've read the Complete Dresden Files and am anxiously waiting for the next part to come!

Thank you! I love the Dresden Files. I always look forward to the next one in the series. :)

A Halloween themed B&B? A friend of mine would absolutely love that. Very interesting idea!

Thanks…I spent a lot of time driving between Atlanta and Columbia thinking about it. Now I have to find a location and funding, etc.

Your B&B will assuredly have very busy Octobers! But I'm sure you'll come up with related themes, like for Poe's birthday or something of that sort, during other times.

Good luck on the house and good luck on idol!

I can come up with things for the rest of the year, I think. Depending on location I envision writers' retreats and weddings and whatever else I can think of.
And thank you!

I would like to stay at one myself. Even if I open it I'm not sure I want to full-time run it but I have a friend who would like to I think.

Congrats on the house, and good luck with the B&B. Sounds like a pretty interesting business premise.

Fixing up houses is HARD. I admire what you're working on.

The house stuff is semi-overwhelming. I am more of an instant-gratification type person and am working on accepting that things take time. Also there are things that I want (claw foot tub) that are not top priority from a financial perspective so those will have to wait.
I will count things as successful if I have everything fixed up within 5 years, which is how long it took my stepmother to get their house looking the way she wanted.

your hair is fabulous. i love how PINK it is. also, i would totally stay at that b&b even tho i'm easily freaked out and would probably spend the entire night wide awake waiting for something to jump out of the closet at me, or for a tentacle to sneak out from under the bed and grab my foot.

>>I spend too much time on the computer not writing.<<

me too. *sigh* hopefully lj idol will change that.

Thank you about the pink hair. I'm slowly working my way down my head, dyeing the roots as they grow.
Good luck on idol!

A Halloween-themed B&B sounds like a lot of fun! Would it be in a haunted house? Would everything be orange and black? Would you have a black cat as the house cat? I can think of lots of people who'd go there!

Date: 2014-03-15 10:40 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] magenta-girl.livejournal.com
The house I WANTED to have it in would have been perfect. It was built by a mill owner here (so lots of ill-treatment of the workers), and then was a funeral home for years and years. The funeral home donated it to the university here and they are ruining it by turning it into offices. I don't know what they're doing with the out building where the funeral preparation went on. The property is on the National Register so they can't tear it down. If I won the lottery I'd pay through the nose for them to give it to me.
I'd probably look for a haunted place. I'd do more vintage Halloween stuff, not all orange and black. Probably would have a black cat. :) I'd like to do things like have pseudo-vintage themed Halloween parties, like a fake mummy unwrapping and the like.

That house sounds like a perfect fit, although I agree that a known haunted house would be better. Sounds like you'd be taking a classier approach to the Halloween theme, which would probably appeal to a lot of occultists, goths and vampire lovers.

I can't remember who, but there was someone who competed in a prior season who had her sights set on one day buying a known haunted property in New Orleans once owned by Nicolas Cage, with similar plans. I'll tell you, though, after reading about the purported spirits in that place, some of whom were slaves who had been horribly mistreated and disfigured, I wouldn't stay there for an hour let along overnight!

Gary might remember who that was.

I wouldn't really want a place with an evil history. A place known to be haunted with just a sad story would be okay, or else some place that I could tie to other things. Like with the place I wanted, I'd be able to do a history of funeral homes. Also there were plenty of creepy stories about it like they used to water the roses with blood, etc. And the property is very close to a cemetery. And since I live in this area it would be easy to find other creepy in town places.
I'm sure that if it's meant to be I'll find the right place.

Knowing what you want is usually the first step towards eventually finding it. Good luck!
